Teenager Has a lot to Smile About

A 15 year old teen from Clearwater had to cover her mouth every time when she smiled. Because of very poor dental hygiene and two liters of soda every day had made her teeth green and black rotten. Now a handful of dentists have come forward to save Shefe Cotton's teeth. A retired dentist from Belleair said; 'I thought it would be a life-changing experience for her. Over a year, the dentists have donated nearly $25,000 work of dental treatment to Cotton at the Homeless Emergency Project in Clearwater. Earlier this month, the last dental treatment was completed, and this has to be a sort of Christmas gift for Cotton. "I'm more energetic, more confident about myself, just happy" said Cotton; a tall girl from Clearwater, who attends the Dunedin High School.

According to the program founders, most of the procedures would cost about $15. The program has about 13 volunteer dentists and specialists. The treatment is done only on appointment to avoid people waiting for the procedures. The treatments will take place at the Gulf Coast Dental Outreach facility in Northern Pinellas. This entire program will be funded by donations in order to compensate for the hygienists and dental assistants.

Fluoride to save your teeth

After 10 years of lobbying, the USC school of Dentistry has persuaded the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California to boost the fluoride levels in public water which is supplied to 18 million residents in Los Angles and other California residents in the South. This is implemented to prevent the tooth decay among the residents.

The MWD has increased the fluorine levels in water, which is considered to be the optimum amount for the dental health. Charles Goldstein, a USC dentistry professor, said that every legitimate health association in the US supports this increased fluoride levels in our public water. Fluoride will save more teeth than all the dentists in the world combined, he added.Hence this dental health measure is likely to have a favorable cost-benefit ratio for the public.

Drop a pound of candy, save your teeth and earn a buck!

A dentist of Shelby Township will offer children a dollar this Halloween for every pound of candy that's dropped between Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 15055 Twenty-two Mile.

This dentist, Robert Antolak will donate these candies to needy children in southwestern Haiti while doing missionary dental work in January. In 2006, many Haitian children, of whom some are orphans, received about 80 pounds of treats. Meanwhile, children who fork over a pound of their candies for a buck from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at Robison Dental Group, 8504 Canton Center Road, in Canton, will give U.S. troops in Iraq a taste of home.
