Teaching Oral Health and Dental Care

February is known as National Dental Health Month, and today a classroom of third grade students are learning about oral health and dental care.

A representative with the Yakima Health District made a visit to Pauline Barnett's third grade classroom today at Mountain View Elementary.

Oral Health Coordinator taught students the significance of flossing and brushing their teeth frequently, along with the dangers of sugar.

Dental care problems caused by states, Abbott says

Federal Health Minister Tony Abbott stated the Federal Government is not accountable for the long dental waiting lists.

He said Parliament state dental funding fell by $47 million among 2000 and 2004.

He noted the case of a pensioner from the Gold Coast who wanted three years to have teeth removed during 1994, when Kevin Rudd worked for the Queensland Government.

East Texas Receive Free Dental Care

More than 100 East Texans got the opportunity to receive dental cleanings, extractions, x-rays and fillings Saturday, all at free of charge. It's called Dentistry with a Heart, and it was given to low income families the chance to get the dental care they badly need.

The waiting room at Smith Dental Care in Tyler was packed Saturday morning as people waited tolerantly for their name to be called.

Dental Center offers free care

A child's trip to the dentist is actually rare something to smile about, but Kristie Schuler said on Friday the Community Dental Center made the scheme less worrying.

Schuler's three children were between about 250 between the ages of 2 and 18 that took benefit of "Give Kids a Smile Day" at SIUC's Community Dental Center Friday.

Between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., about 100 dental hygiene students and numerous home dentists performed exams, filled cavities and offer other services to the children free of charge.

Free dental care brings new smiles to needy kids

Give Kids a Smile Day now involves more than 14,000 dentists and 37,000 dental staff across the nation, treating more than 750,000 children in need of dental care. The ADA estimates more than $72 million is donated in free dental care across the country.

Dr. Geoff Engelhardt and Hanck of The Practice out the Family Dentistry, 1136 E. Stuart, were above two of the 850 dentists in Colorado who opened up their offices to needy children.
