A number of people are just cheap. Rest are playing the chances, reasoning that paying for doctors and prescription medications on an ad hoc basis will prove cheaper than the $500-plus per month they'd have to shell out for health insurance. But majority of America's 47 million uninsured live and die without coverage because they can't pay for it. Worse than a national scandal, our deteriorating healthcare scheme is an international shame. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are so distressed that they travel abroad to leech off socialized health care systems, which are common in other developed nations.
