An article reported in The Washington Post on February 28, Deamonte Driver died of a toothache. By the time Deamonte's painful tooth got any attention, the bacteria from the abscess had extended to his brain, according to the doctors. After two operations and more than six weeks of sickbay care, the boy finally died.
We must all do all that we could to stop a disaster like this from occurrence again, but we have to redouble our efforts to teach this segment of our population about the fundamentals of dental care. Let the death of this young boy beat all of us to find new ways to assist everyone have access to dental care.
