Some children are not offered orthodontic surgery at Palmerston North Hospital because the Government doesn't repay it.
But at the same time, the MidCentral Health dental service is now taking on another group of dental patients it doesn't get paid properly to take care of people from the now-closed Kimberley Centre who have moved to society homes.
"It is causing a problem," says clinical director Phil Marshall.
